Charlestown Bells

2000

Aluminum, Stainless Steel

77’ x 5’

This interactive musical sculpture, located near Revere Park, Boston, Massachusetts, was commissioned by the Metropolitan District Commission.   The Charlestown Bells consist of 30 tubular bells, 3” in diameter, ranging in length from 4’ to 8’, which are mounted on a railing along part of a well-traveled pedestrian walkway between Charlestown and Boston.  Near each bell is a striker that is activated by a handle.  Pedestrians walking along the piece ring the bells by pushing the handles as they pass by.
